Clean Water LLC uses its patented RU2 process to extract sodium chloride and calcium chloride from produced water. The salts are removed in liquid form, leaving behind distilled water, thereby greatly reducing plugging in the water treatment equipment. The treatment processes offered by Clean Water’s competitors result in excessive plugging caused by the cooling and solidification of the salts during extraction. This plugging requires long shut down times for equipment maintenance. Clean Water’s RU2 process greatly reduces shut down times for maintenance of the equipment by avoiding excessive plugging.

The RU2 process allows for extended run times due to its design that far exceed previous water treatment technology. Clean Water, LLC is proud to be able to fabricate a more efficient technology that provides benefits beginning with low cost to build the RU2 treatment equipment, as well as low cost to treat produced water on a per barrel basis. Unlike our competitors, Clean Water’s treatment process makes it cost-effective to treat and sell the resulting separated salts and distilled water or reuse the water for fracking, rather than dispose of it in manners that are detrimental to additional environment, such as injection wells.

Regulatory / Environmental Benefits

Clean Water’s technology provides environmental benefits by allowing the elimination of injection wells which have been linked to increased seismic activity, and which are the subject of increased regulatory scrutiny. Additionally, use of the RU2 process allows for elimination of potential contamination of freshwater aquifers resulting from use of injection wells or dumping of produced water.

Clean Water’s RU2 technology provides economic benefits to its users by providing the opportunity for:

The sale of crude oil recovered from from the produced water;
The sale of sodium chloride either as a solid or a brine, which can be used as road salt with 95% purity, or which can be used for industrial purposes, with additional treatment, to reach 99% purity or better.
The sale of calcium chloride either as a brine, or with the addition of a crystallizer as a solid;
The sale or reuse of demineralized water a user’s ongoing tracking or drilling operations or disposal of it without economic or environmental harm;
Efficient use of employees, both during construction of the RU2 water treatment facility, and throughout the facility’s 24 hour a day operations. This benefit is further enhanced by less downtime provided by reduced plugging and maintenance that results from the RU2 process.
The ability of a user to locate a RU2 water treatment facility close to its oil field and operations can greatly reduce the costs associated with hauling produced water to treatment facilities, as well as eliminating the costs of disposal of the water, either through injection wells, or other environmentally damaging methods. Further, fewer trucks traveling short distances on public roadways results in benefits to the user through reduced trucking operational and depreciation costs as well as benefits to local communities and taxpayers through less wear and tear on the roads and increased Public Safety.

Financial Benefits

The RU2 process allows for significant savings and multiple sources of potential profit from the treatment of produced water. The RU2 process allows a user to save money by treating its produced water for approximately $3 per barrel while competing processes cost $12-$14 per barrel. However, in addition to the savings realized by a user from treating its own produced water, and the revenue generated from the sale of the extracted salts and demineralized water, an RU2 user can create an additional revenue stream by charging a fee for treatment of produced received water from other sources. Such treatment will allow other oil and gas producers to dispose of their hazardous produced water in an environmentally friendly manner and advertise that they do so.
